Women-owned businesses accounted for 4.4% of all gross sales in the United States, roughly $818.7 million sales. Between 1992 and 1997, there was a -15.5% decline in women-owned firms. States with the largest number of women-owned businesses are California (700,513), New York (394,014), Texas (381,453), Florida (337,811), and Illinois (239,725).
